Overview

Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure is being deployed across the UK, to keep pace with the uptake of drivers switching to electric cars. The majority of charging points are being installed along major road networks, but we are seeing an increase in charge points being developed further afield. We can assist in securing charge points at your premises, before others are built locally.

EV Charging

Particularly with grid connection expenses, EV charge points are costly to install and the returns uncertain. However, we work with all of the leading Charge Point Operator’s (CPO’s) and in many cases are able to secure the interest of an EV CPO to fully fund the installation.

As well as driving footfall to your premises, we can negotiate competitive fixed rents for you, whereby the CPO rents the car spaces from you (where the charging points are located) under a fixed term lease. This is often in addition to a profit share, as well as ensuring the EV CPO pays for all the electricity used and maintenance and repairs.

Another option, if you do not wish to rent spaces out, is to fund the cost of the grid connection, hardware and planning yourself. We can assist with every aspect and the benefit with this option is that you retain the majority of the profit made on the electricity sold through the charging points (as opposed to receiving a rent and profit share).

If you would like to find out if either option is feasible at your premises, please use the “Submit a Site” button to send us a plan of your property and we will review your site and come back to you. Alternatively, please feel free to get in touch with a member of the team to find out more.

Battery Swapping

Battery swapping is where, rather than charging the battery in your car, you take it to a swap station to simply change the battery. This is taking off in China and we anticipate that there will soon be a demand for swap station sites here in the UK as well, which could be co-located with charging points.

Two of the benefits with battery swapping is that when a battery is nearing the end of its useful life, it can easily be taken out of circulation. Currently, it is also a lot quicker to swap a battery than to charge one from empty, so it can alleviate both battery life and range anxiety at the same time.

Battery swapping facilities require a larger area of land to operate than EV Charge Points and are more expensive to build. We expect that this may result in swap station developers seeking longer term leases than EV CPO’s typically require, with a potential preference towards freehold acquisition.

If you are approached by a developer or promoter, or would like to be one of the first landowners to host one of these swap stations in the UK, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We would be pleased to act as your agent in seeking to secure a development partner to deliver a project on your premises.

There is an increasing demand for EV infrastructure and this presents a great opportunity for many landowners. We recommend that anyone who is interested in hosting public EV infrastructure seeks advice from a specialist Chartered Surveyor in the first instance.
